NOVA PURE 1K - 1000 Watt (1kW) 12 Volt Industrial Pure Sine Wave Inverter

The NOVA PURE 1K is a plain 1000 W inverter: it takes 12 volts DC from a battery and gives you three 120 V outlets and a USB port. There is no solar controller, no battery charger and no transfer switch in this box - if you need those, look at the NOVA 2K12 or the hybrid NOVA MAX. What you get instead is 5.3 lb, a low price, and clean enough power to run electronics that a modified-sine inverter would buzz through.

Why this inverter

• 1000 W continuous with a 2000 W peak surge, enough for a microwave, a small induction hob or a compact power tool, though not all three at once.
• True pure sine output, which matters for laptops, CPAP machines, variable-speed motors and anything with a switch-mode supply. Cheaper modified-sine units can make these run hot or noisily.
• Three AC sockets, so you are not immediately reaching for a power strip, plus a 5 V 2.1 A USB port for phones and tablets.
• LED indicators call out under-voltage, over-voltage, over-temperature, overload and short circuit separately, so a shutdown tells you why rather than just going dark.
• Certified to UL 458 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1 - the mobile and marine standard, which is the certification an RV or boat insurer is most likely to ask about.
• Efficiency is quoted at greater than 88%. That is honest for a high-frequency unit at this price, but it means roughly 90 to 95 amps of DC draw at full load. Size the battery cable and fuse for that, not for the 1000 W figure.

Installation

• 12 VDC only. This will not run on a 24 V bank - the NOVA PURE MAX 2K is the 24 V equivalent.
• 12.6 x 7.7 x 3.2 in and 5.3 lb. Small enough to sit on a shelf or bolt to a bulkhead, but the cooling fans are on the fast side and need clear air on both ends.
• Rated 14°F to 122°F, a wider high-temperature range than Rich Solar's hybrid inverters, which suits a hot vehicle bay.
• Connects directly to a 12 V battery or a 12 V DC outlet. At sustained loads over a few hundred watts, wire it straight to the battery with an appropriately rated fuse rather than through a cigarette-lighter socket.
• Rich Solar's marketing for the NOVA PURE line says a remote control is included, but the matching remote is also sold as a separate accessory. Confirm what is actually in the box before you count on it.
