BRAVO 50 - 50 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller

The BRAVO 50 sits one step above the BRAVO 40 and takes 700W of array at 12V rather than 600W. Fifty amps absorbs roughly 720W at bulk voltage, so like the 40 this controller is properly matched to the array Rich Solar recommends for it rather than clipping the top. There is one difference between the two that is not about amps at all, and it is covered below.

Why this controller

• 50 amps of charge current on a 12V or 24V bank, with system voltage detected automatically.
• 700W of array at 12V or 1400W at 24V, both close to what 50 amps can genuinely take at the relevant bus voltage.
• PV open-circuit input rated to 100V DC.
• Eight battery presets across both chemistries: crystal, GEL, AGM, wet and calcium on the lead-acid side, LCO, LiFePO4 and LTO on the lithium side.
• Reverse-discharge and over-voltage protection, conformal coating on the board, and charging data stored on the unit.
• Rich Solar publishes above 99.5 percent MPPT tracking efficiency and up to 98 percent conversion efficiency. Both are peak figures under favourable conditions.
• The manufacturer's title claims this was awarded the number one solar controller of 2025. No awarding body, publication or basis appears anywhere on the page, so read it as advertising rather than an independent result.

Worth knowing before you order

• Unlike the BRAVO 30 and BRAVO 40, this model carries no published UL1741 certification. The 30 and 40 both state it on the product page and in their titles; the BRAVO 50 does not, and no certificate is offered for download here where the 40 offers one. If your installation needs to pass an inspection that asks for a listed controller, resolve this with Rich Solar before ordering. That is a real consideration when you are choosing between the 40 and the 50, and it is worth more than the extra 100W to some buyers.
• Rich Solar publishes a specification sheet for this model but no user manual, where the 30 and 40 both have one.
• Neither Bluetooth nor a display is listed in the features or the specification table. If wireless monitoring matters, the BRAVO 30 is the model in this range that publishes it.
• This unit uses a common NEGATIVE connection, which suits normal negative-chassis vehicle wiring. The sealed BRAVO Waterproof PWM controllers are the opposite, common positive, so do not carry assumptions between the two ranges.
• The protection rating is split: IP43 for the circuit board, IP22 for the connection area. IP22 covers fingers and dripping water and nothing more, so this belongs inside a vehicle or a dry compartment.
• No MPPT voltage tracking window and no operating temperature range are published for this model. If you are planning a high-voltage string rather than parallel panels, ask rather than assuming the 100V open-circuit figure is the whole story.
• Body measures 7.7 by 5.5 by 2.9 inches and weighs 3.09 lb.
• A California Proposition 65 warning applies to this product.
