The BRAVO 30 is the current-generation 30 amp MPPT controller, and it replaces the older 30A MPPT unit that Rich Solar still lists. Two things are worth knowing before you compare them: this newer model is the cheaper of the two in our store, and unlike the older one it has Bluetooth built in rather than needing a separate BT-1 module. If you were weighing up the two, this is the one to buy.

Why this controller

  • 30 amps of charge current on a 12V or 24V bank, with system voltage detected automatically.
  • Bluetooth is inside the unit and works with the Rich Solar app. The BT-1 module sold for the older MPPT range is not needed here.
  • Nine charge profiles: GEL, AGM, wet, crystal, calcium, LiFePO4, LTO, LCO and a user-defined slot, with adjustable parameters inside each.
  • LCD and LED display showing solar input and battery state without reaching for a phone.
  • Rich Solar publishes 99.5 percent MPPT tracking efficiency and 98 percent conversion efficiency. Both are peak figures under favourable conditions and will not be seen every day.
  • Certified to UL1741, with FCC, CE and RoHS marks.
  • The manufacturer's title claims this was awarded the number one solar controller of 2025. No awarding body, publication or basis appears anywhere on the page, so read it as advertising rather than an independent result.

Sizing and wiring

  • Rich Solar recommends up to 500W of array at 12V. Worth doing the arithmetic: 30 amps into a 12V bank at bulk voltage is roughly 430W, so the top of a 500W array will be clipped on the brightest days. That is normal over-paneling rather than a fault, and it buys you better output in poor light, but do not expect 500W to arrive at the battery.
  • At 24V the recommendation is 1000W, and 30 amps at that bus voltage absorbs closer to 860W, so the same clipping applies.
  • Array open-circuit voltage must stay below 100V, but the MPPT tracking window is only 15 to 72V. An array whose maximum-power voltage sits above 72V will be tolerated and not tracked at its optimum. Size strings for a Vmp inside that window, and check Voc at your coldest expected temperature.
  • The protection rating is split and the split matters: the circuit board is rated IP43 but the connections are only IP22. IP22 protects against fingers and dripping water, nothing more. This belongs inside a vehicle or a dry compartment, not on an exposed bulkhead, whatever the phrase weather-resistant suggests.
  • Rich Solar does not publish an operating temperature range for this model, though it does for others in the line. If your installation runs hot or very cold, ask before ordering.
  • Body measures 7.0 by 5.5 by 2.9 inches.
  • The remote meter and the external battery temperature sensor are listed as options and are not supplied.
  • A California Proposition 65 warning applies to this product.

Warranty

  • Rich Solar's published warranty on charge controllers runs two years and is prorated: full coverage in the first year, 50 percent in the second.
  • Claims are handled by Rich Solar directly. Register the product and keep your invoice.
