Tilt Mount - Adjustable Solar Panel Tilt Brackets for Roofs and Flat Surfaces

A flat-mounted panel is pointed at the sky rather than at the sun, and in winter the sun is low. These adjustable aluminium arms let you prop the back edge of a rigid panel up to a useful angle, which is where most of the gain from tilting comes from — short days, low sun, and a panel that would otherwise be looking at the wrong part of the sky.

Which arm length

• 15~30° | 14.2 inch arm — the shallower option. Suits a lower latitude, a year-round compromise angle, or a location where wind is a real concern and you want to keep the panel closer to the roof.
• 30~60° | 26.0 inch arm — the steep option. This is the one for a genuinely high winter latitude, or for shedding snow off the panel face. Sixty degrees is steep enough that snow will slide rather than sit.

These are two different arm lengths, not two quality tiers. Pick the one whose range covers the angle you actually want, and note that the ranges do not overlap much — if you want 30 degrees, either will do it, at opposite ends of their travel.

What these will not do, plainly

• The angle you can reach depends on your panel's length. Rich Solar says only "maximum tilt angles depending on the size of solar panels," which is true but unhelpful. A fixed-length arm pushing up the back edge of a long panel produces a shallower angle than the same arm on a short panel. If you are close to needing the top of a range, measure your panel first or ask us.
• A tilted panel is a sail. This is the thing to take seriously. Flat on a roof, a panel presents almost nothing to the wind. At 60 degrees it presents its whole face, and the load goes into your roof fixings, not into the tilt arms. Rich Solar publishes no wind load rating for these mounts at all. Do not leave a panel tilted through a storm, and do not tilt on a substrate you would not trust with the load.
• Not for use while driving. If this is going on an RV or trailer, the panel must be lowered flat before the vehicle moves. That is true of every tilt mount and it is how most of them get destroyed.
• Rich Solar does not state how many arms are in a pack. Neither the product page nor the collection listing says whether a purchase covers one panel or one side of one panel. We are not going to guess at a quantity. Ask us to confirm before you order if the count matters to your build — this is a genuine gap in the manufacturer's published data.
• No weight, no dimensions and no material grade are published beyond "aluminum alloy" and the adjustable length. There is an installation manual covering both variants; ask us for it if you need the hole pattern before committing.
• Framed rigid panels only. There is nothing to bolt a tilt arm to on a flexible panel.

Installation

• The tilt arms replace the rear fixing only. The front edge of the panel still needs a hinge point fixed down — plan both ends before you drill anything.
• Every fixing point is a roof penetration. Bed on butyl or a compatible sealant and seal the fastener heads; no sealant is supplied.
• Set the angle with the panel supported, not hanging on the adjustment. Do not use the arm as a lever to lift the panel.
• If you will change the angle seasonally, leave enough cable slack at both extremes of travel and check the cable is not chafing at either position.
• Re-check the fasteners after the first few weeks. Tilt mounts see cyclic wind load and bolts that were snug on day one often are not by month two.
