500 Amp Battery Monitor with Shunt - 8-120V Battery Status Meter

Battery voltage is a poor guide to how much energy you have left, especially on lithium, where the voltage barely moves across most of the usable range. This monitor solves that by measuring current through a shunt and counting amp-hours in and out, so the display shows what is actually left in the bank rather than an inference from voltage.

Why this monitor

• Works across an unusually wide 8-120V range, so the same unit suits a 12V van build, a 24V trailer or a 48V home bank.
• Handles up to 500A of measured current and can be programmed for bank capacities from 0.1 up to 9999Ah.
• Voltage, current and remaining capacity are all specified to plus or minus 1% accuracy.
• Very low parasitic draw: about 10mA running, 1mA on standby. The backlight is the expensive part at 80mA, so leave it off if you are counting every milliamp.
• Separate shunt and wall-mounted display, which means the heavy cable work stays at the battery and only a thin shielded signal cable runs to where you actually read it.
• An optional metal bezel is sold here as a second variant. It is a trim ring for a cleaner flush-mounted finish, not a functional upgrade — the monitor works identically without it.

Installation

• Disconnect everything from the battery negative before you start.
• The shunt goes in the negative line as close to the battery as practical. The battery negative must land on the B- side of the shunt and nothing else may connect directly to that terminal, or your readings will drift.
• Run the supplied B+ sense wire from the shunt to battery positive. Do not stack small ring terminals underneath large ones.
• The display needs a cut-out in a panel or wall. You will want a drill and jigsaw, plus a crimp tool and two ring terminals sized for your battery cable.
• Link the display to the shunt with the supplied shielded cable, then snap the display into its opening.
• Plan the display location before cutting — the shielded cable has to reach all the way back to the shunt.
