A 28-inch adjustable arm for propping a rigid solar panel up toward the sun once you are parked, and folding it back down flat before you drive. That fold-flat behaviour is the whole reason this one carries the RV name — Rich Solar describes it as suited to easy transportation as well as mounting, which is a different priority from a tilt mount that lives permanently on a static roof.
Why this mount
- 28 inches of arm, which is the longest tilt arm Rich Solar sells — longer than the 26-inch option in the standard Tilt Mount range.
- Lightweight aluminium alloy, which matters more on a vehicle roof than on a shed.
- Adjustable, so you can set a summer angle and a winter angle rather than living with one compromise.
- Folds down flat for travel, so the panel goes back to being an ordinary flat-mounted panel between stops.
- An installation manual is published for this specific SKU.
How it compares to our standard Tilt Mount
- This arm is 28 inches and costs less than the 26-inch RS-TM6 in the standard Tilt Mount listing. Longer and cheaper, which is worth knowing before you assume the pricier one is the bigger one.
- The trade-off is documentation. The standard Tilt Mount publishes stated angle ranges — 15 to 30 degrees on the short arm, 30 to 60 on the long one. Rich Solar publishes no angle range at all for this RV mount, only the 28-inch length and the same vague note that maximum angle depends on panel size.
- So: if you know exactly what angle you need, buy the standard Tilt Mount, because it tells you what it does. If what you need is a long, light, fold-flat arm for a vehicle and you will set the angle by eye on site, this is the cheaper and longer option.
What it will not do, plainly
- No tilt angle range is published. We are not going to calculate one for you from the arm length, because the answer depends on your panel's dimensions and on where along the panel the arm attaches. Ask us and we will send the installation manual.
- The panel must be flat before the vehicle moves. A tilted panel at highway speed will be torn off, and it will take part of your roof with it. This is the most common way tilt mounts and RV roofs are destroyed.
- No wind load rating is published. A tilted panel is a sail, and the load ends up in your roof fixings rather than in the arm. Lower the panel before a storm, not during one.
- Quantity per pack is not stated anywhere on the manufacturer's page — there is no indication whether one purchase tilts one panel or one edge. Confirm with us before ordering if the count matters.
- No weight, no dimensions beyond the 28-inch length, and no alloy grade published. We have not invented any of them.
- Framed rigid panels only. A flexible panel has nothing to attach an arm to.
Installation
- Plan the hinge end as well as the lifting end before drilling. The front edge of the panel needs a fixed pivot; the arm only handles the back.
- Every fixing is a roof penetration. Bed on butyl or a compatible sealant and seal the fastener heads — none is supplied.
- Leave enough cable slack for the panel to sit at both the flat and the raised position without tension or chafe.
- Get into the habit of checking the panel is down as part of your departure routine, alongside steps and antenna.
- Re-torque the fixings after the first few trips. Road vibration plus cyclic wind load loosens fasteners that felt tight on day one.
Warranty and safety
- Covered by Rich Solar's published limited warranty; terms are on the manufacturer's warranty page.
- Carries a California Proposition 65 warning for cancer risk and reproductive harm.
