NOVA 2K12 - 2000W 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter with Built-in Transfer Switch

The smaller of Rich Solar's two NOVA SWITCH inverters: 2,000W of pure sine wave output from a 12V bank, with an automatic transfer switch built in so shore power passes through to your outlets and the unit falls back to battery in under 20 milliseconds. There is no battery charger inside, so it will not top up your bank from shore power - it only decides which source feeds your AC circuits.

Why this inverter rather than the 3K12

• The two units are the same product in two sizes. Identical spec sheet apart from power, and the 2K12 is 0.8 inches shorter and 1.7 lb lighter. The 3K12 costs about $80 more for another 1,000W.
• The reason to choose this one is current, not price. At 91% efficiency the 2K12 pulls roughly 183A from a 12V bank at full output; the 3K12 pulls about 275A. If you are running a single 12V lithium battery, 183A is inside what many BMS units can actually deliver continuously and 275A generally is not.
• 2,000W continuous with 4,000W of surge for five seconds - enough for a residential fridge, a microwave or a decent power tool, one at a time.
• Under 5% total harmonic distortion, so medical equipment, laptops and anything with a switch-mode supply run cleanly.
• Adjustable low-voltage shutdown from 10.5V to 12.8V, LCD display for live voltage and load, and RS232 / RS485 ports for monitoring integration.

Wiring and installation

• Size cable and the DC fuse for about 183A continuous, not for the 2,000W headline. That is 2/0 cable territory with a fuse around 200A.
• Rich Solar's stated minimum is a 12V 100Ah deep-cycle or LiFePO4 battery. Check the BMS continuous discharge rating on yours before relying on that, because 183A from a 100Ah pack is a 1.8C discharge and not every 100Ah battery supports it.
• Accepts 80-140 VAC input at full power across 45-70 Hz, which tolerates weak or unstable campground shore power better than most.
• Rated -40°F to 160°F, but full output only from -4°F to 122°F. Outside that band it derates.
• 14.8 x 12.0 x 4.1 inches, 15.9 lb, with a temperature-regulated fan that needs clear air.

• The "marine-grade durability" drip shield Rich Solar mentions is optional and not supplied with the unit.
• Rich Solar's page summary claims 92% efficiency while their own feature list and specification table both state 91%. The current figures above use 91%.
