A low-profile roof cable entry built around a PG9 compression gland rather than a plain sealed plate. The cable passes through the gland and the gland clamps down on it, which is a different sealing approach from our other entry plates and the reason this one has a longer, narrower footprint. Electrically it is the same 30 amps on 10AWG tin-plated copper.

Why this plate

  • IP68 PG9 gland head in PA6 nylon — a compression seal that grips the cable itself, so movement at the cable does not work the seal loose.
  • 30 amps continuous, 42 amps maximum at 600 volts on UL1015 10AWG tin-plated copper. Tin plating resists the slow corrosion that raises resistance at a cut copper end.
  • VW-1 fire-rated PVC insulation, good from 5°F to 221°F on the wire itself.
  • Flame-retardant polypropylene housing rated -40°F to 185°F.
  • Pre-assembled leads with MC4 connectors — nothing to crimp.
  • Low-profile design at 2.0 inches tall, intended for rooftop use on RVs, boats and cabins.

Which cable entry plate should you buy?

We stock three and they are easy to confuse. Read this before choosing.

  • This PG9 plate (RS-G02) and our 10AWG plate (RS-G04) cost exactly the same and carry exactly the same 30A / 42A / 600V rating on the same 10AWG tin-plated wire. The differences are physical and in the certification detail.
  • The RS-G04 is better certified. Its MC4 connectors are UL Listed with UL94V0 flame-retardant shells. This plate's gland head is UL94V-2, which is the less strict of the two ratings, and its MC4 connectors carry TUV certification rather than a UL listing. If certification matters to you — for an inspection, an insurer, or your own peace of mind — the RS-G04 is the stronger product at the same money.
  • This plate is a different shape. 7.2 × 3.8 × 2.0 in against the RS-G04's 5.9 × 4.3 × 1.6 in. This one is longer, narrower and half an inch taller. On a crowded roof that can decide it either way.
  • Choose this one if you specifically want a compression gland clamping the cable, or if the longer, narrower footprint suits the space you have. Choose the RS-G04 otherwise — same price, better certifications, smaller and lower.
  • Our 8AWG plate (RS-G05) is the one to look at only if your array exceeds 30 amps.

What it will not do, plainly

  • The manufacturer's summary contradicts its own specification table twice. The page summary says the plate operates from -22°F to 140°F and is made of ABS; the specification table says -40°F to 185°F and polypropylene. We have listed the specification table figures because they are the detailed source, but you should know the manufacturer is not consistent about either the temperature range or the material.
  • Mounting hardware and sealant are not supplied. Rich Solar states this: secure with adhesive or sealant and screws, none included.
  • IP68 describes the gland, not your roof. The plate still sits over a hole you cut. Sealing that penetration is a separate job and it is where these installations leak.
  • 600V is the wire rating, not a system rating.
  • Lead length is not published. Ask us before ordering if you are working to a tight cable plan.
  • Black only.

Installation

  • Dry-fit and mark before cutting. Check the leads reach with slack to spare.
  • Drill the cable hole, deburr it, and seal the hole edge as well as bedding the plate down.
  • Tighten the PG9 gland onto the cable firmly but do not crush the insulation. The gland seals by compressing an elastomer, not by brute force.
  • Leave a drip loop below the entry point so water runs off rather than tracking along the cable into the hole.
  • Seal under any screw heads. A screw through a sealed plate is still a hole.
