12V 60A DC-DC Battery Charger - Lithium and Lead-Acid, RV, Van, Marine

The largest DC-DC charger Rich Solar makes, and the one to choose when drive times are short and the house bank is big. It converts alternator output into a correct charge profile for a 12V bank and doubles as the isolator between starter and house batteries.

Be aware before you buy

• Check your alternator before choosing this model. Pulling a sustained 60A on top of the vehicle's own loads will overheat a tired or modestly-rated alternator. This is the single most common mistake with 60A DC-DC chargers.
• The D+ cable, LC cable and temperature sensor are not included.
• The RJ11 temperature sensor port compensates charge voltage for weather, but applies to lead-acid only, not lithium.
• Efficiency is quoted as above 85% at 14VDC and 30% load. At 60A output the heat load is meaningful, so ventilation is not optional.

Choosing between 20A, 40A and 60A

• Feature set, input window and charge logic are identical across all three. Only current, size and weight change.
• Take the 60A if you run 400Ah or more of lithium, drive in short bursts, and have an alternator rated to supply it. Otherwise the 40A is the better-balanced choice and the 20A is right for small banks or weak alternators.

Installation

• 12.3 x 7.4 x 3.1 inches and 6.2 lb — noticeably larger than the 40A, so confirm you have the cabinet depth before ordering.
• Input operating range is 10-16VDC.
• Cable and fusing must be rated for the full 60A on both sides. Voltage drop over long runs matters more at this current than at 20A.
• Mount with generous airflow around the heatsink.
